NP played the first-ever One in Christ service in Washington, Indiana on April 26.

Narrow Path will lead music (hey, it’s our first arena gig!) and Ken Idleman of Crossroads Christian Church in Evansville and Tom Ellsworth of Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in Bloomington will be speaking.

Also, be sure to stop by the Narrow Path table and get a t-shirt ($10 each) a copy of the CD, ‘Far As The Curse Is Found’ (VERY limited supply – $10 each) and/or an informational booklet.

We have written a few songs for the CCJ congregation and I thought I’d start something new since one of the goals of congregational singing is for everyone to, you know, sing along with the band.

The new song we introduced (“We Are Called”) was written the CCJ congregation to go along with our study of I Peter (the main theme of the lyrics is from I Peter 2). Since this is an original song and unavailable for you to learn on your own, I thought I’d post a soundboard recording of the song from services today so that readers of the blog could be familiar with the song when we sing it again.

Keep in mind, this is not the highest quality but simply something for you to learn the song by.

Narrow Path is a band of rotating members that serves as the music worship band for the Christian Church of Jasper in Jasper, Indiana.

The band currently includes: Daniel Ross (electric and acoustic guitars, mandolin & lead vocals), Kurt Neighbors (bass), Andrew Kieffner (bass), Mike Weisensteiner (drums), Phil Hostetler (acoustic guitar), Chris Bolin (acoustic guitar), Bethany Vogts (backing vocals), Kara Messmore (backing vocals), Chealsey Patton (backing vocals) and Angie Stewart (keyboard & piano).

The band plays a variety of styles to help serve a community that appreciates a variety of styles. If forced to fit into a mold, however, one could describe the band as having an overall modern pop/rock sound.

The band formed at CCJ in mid-2002 and chose the moniker Narrow Path in July 2005. The band’s style has evolved over the years in an effort to properly serve its church home.

The band’s recording history began in August 2007 when some members began recording “The 99 Days EP,” a collection of 5 cover songs. The EP was part of CCJ’s “99 Days” campaign to raise funds to begin an orphanage in Haiti. Though this was a limited release, the recording lives on as free downloads on CCJ’s web site, www.ccjasper.com.

Several members of the band began recording a second CD in March 2008. The members decided this recording would be a Christmas album. “Far As The Curse Is Found” was released on Nov. 9, 2008 in physical and digital formats.

Narrow Path recordings do not always feature every member of the band as time constraints and participation levels vary among members. “Far As The Curse Is Found” features Ross, Neighbors, Weisensteiner as principal participants on each song with Vogts, Messmore and guest guitarist Drew Hill adding their talents to the album.

Questions will rise about the Christmas album’s title, “Far As The Curse Is Found.” The title comes from a line in “Joy to the World.”

In this remarkable carol, we hear the announcement of a Gospel as big as the cosmos itself. The blessings of Jesus’ redemption flow as far as the curse is found, wherever that curse is found—in family life, political and business life; in government, industry, and science; in the arts and in recreation; education and economics. This is a Gospel for people who vote and work; who shop and play; who learn and create. It isn’t a Gospel simply for a disembodied existence on the other side of death. Lowell Mason’s hymn reminds us that the Gospel is good news to a world where every aspect of the cosmos and our existence in it is twisted away from the intention of the Creator’s design by the powers of sin and death.

The Narrow Path Christmas album “Far As The Curse Is Found” shipped yesterday from the manufacturer. Release day is Sunday, Nov. 9 at the Christian Church of Jasper.

The album will be available for a “pay-what-you-want-even-if-it’s-nothing” model for members and attenders of the Christian Church of Jasper (even multiple copies). This is the Radiohead/Keith Green model for those familiar with what that band did several months ago and what Keith Green did back years ago at his shows. We certainly think the project is worth something but we, by no means, want someone not to have it because of lack of funds.

Physical copies of the disc will also be available online through CD Baby (retail price $7.99) as well as digital downloads available through iTunes, Digstation and some others to be named later.

This is the culmination of nearly a year’s worth of work (off and on).
